Old Mutual donates MK5 million to Malawi National Spelling Bee

Old Mutual Malawi has donated MK5 million to Malawi National Spelling Bee which help six Malawians travel to Zimbabwe to participate in the 2026 African Spelling Bee.
The two day competition is scheduled to commence on 19 February 2026.
Speaking after the donation Old Mutual Malawi Strategy, Digital and Data Executive Lorraine Mlenga said the company was delighted to support young Malawian spellers as they prepare to compete at continental level.
“The Spelling Bee Competition is precisely such an intervention, and we are proud to stand behind it.
“Our support for this initiative aligns perfectly with our responsible business philosophy. We are committed to positively impacting the communities we serve and demonstrating shared value in education as a catalyst for social and economic development,” said Mlenga.
She added: “To the team representing Malawi in Zimbabwe we wish you all the best, go and represent the country and make us proud.”
On his part Malawi National Spelling Bee Chief Executive Officer Lewis Baula hailed Old Mutual for the timely support.
“We are very excited to receive this assistance, which will enable six children to represent Malawi in Zimbabwe. This is not the first time Old Mutual has supported us, in 2022 they did the same,” said Baula.
He then appealed to other well-wishers to support the initiative.
