Court in Dowa Fines Man K1.5 Million for Illegal Possession of Medical Drugs

The Mponela Magistrate’s Court in Dowa has ordered 52-year-old Maximiano Kapiyo to pay a fine of K1.5 million after he was found guilty of possessing various medical drugs without a licence.
Kapiyo was arrested on 23 January this year following a tip-off from members of the public.
During sentencing, State prosecutor Vincent Mtalawe asked the court to impose a stiff penalty, arguing that such offences are increasingly common in the district.
In his ruling, First Grade Magistrate Talakwanji Mndala agreed with the State and handed down the fine accordingly.
Kapiyo has since paid the fine in full.
