Somalia – All 50 passengers onboard a StarSky Aviation aircraft survived after the plane crash-landed in the Indian Ocean shortly after taking off from Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Reports indicate that the aircraft experienced technical difficulties minutes after departing from Runway 23. The Somali Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that the plane went down in a coastal area just outside the airport’s western perimeter.

According to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the aircraft developed mechanical problems about 15 minutes into its flight to Guriel and Galkaayo.

The pilot attempted to return to Mogadishu but was forced to crash-land in shallow waters near Jasiira Beach. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft flying unusually low before it skimmed across the water and came to a stop along the shoreline.

Emergency teams, including personnel from UNSOS and AUSSOM, rescued all passengers, while authorities confirmed there were no fatalities and investigations into the cause are underway.
