The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has advised its members, especially the youth, to stop interfering with the security of President Peter Mutharika and his wife, Gertrude, stating that security agencies are responsible for their protection.
In a letter, youth leaders from the Southern, Central, and Northern regions said that now that the DPP is in government, its leaders are serving the country in official capacities.
DPP spokesperson Shadric Namalomba said the directive followed an incident on Friday at Parliament House, where President Mutharika was opening the parliamentary debate on the 2026/2027 budget.
He explained that some youth members of the party had wanted to take part in providing security for the President, a move he described as inappropriate.
