The First Grade Magistrate Court at Mkukula in Dowa has sentenced 22-year-old Million Gidion to 60 months in prison after being found guilty of vandalising an electricity transmitter belonging to Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).
State prosecutor Sandra Msika told the court that Gidion was caught damaging the transmitter on 12 December 2025 at Mbalame Village in Lumbadzi, Dowa District.
Gidion pleaded guilty and asked the court for leniency, saying he supports his family.
However, First Grade Magistrate Kondani Chinangwa agreed with the prosecution and handed down the sentence, saying it should serve as a lesson to others who may consider committing similar offences.
