15 Year Old Girl K!lled, Two Injured in Hyena Attack in Mzimba

A 15 year old girl identified as Dyna Sato has died while two others, Brave Makamo and Kingston Nyangulu, are nursing serious injuries after they were attacked by a hyena in Zubayumo area in Mzimba District.
According to eyewitness Bonface Jere, the deceased and her two friends had gone to collect firewood at Solora Hill on Tuesday morning when they encountered the wild animal.
Mzimba Police public relations officer Maria Banda confirmed the incident.
“Community members tried to rescue the girl but by the time they reached her, she had already been overpowered. The two boys were attacked first and sustained severe injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at Mzimba District Hospital,” Banda said.
She added that villagers have since managed to kill one of the hyenas believed to have carried out the attack.
Police have urged communities to remain vigilant, especially when accessing bushy and hilly areas where wild animals may be present.
