The Malawi Police Service has arrested a second key suspect, Steven Kadammanja, 42, of Njema Village in Mulanje, in connection with the K392 million robbery that occurred near Autotech Building in Lilongwe on February 9, 2026.
Police Deputy Publicist Alfred Chinthere said that during his arrest, Kadammanja allegedly attempted to overpower a police officer and was shot in the right arm. He is currently receiving treatment at Kamuzu Central Hospital under police guard.
The arrest follows that of Nelson Chipokosa, 49, from Nsozi Village in Lilongwe, who is suspected to have coordinated a fake currency exchange that led to the robbery.
Chinthere said investigations are ongoing to recover the stolen money and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
