The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a radiology technician at Zomba Central Hospital on allegations of abuse of public office.

In a press release dated February 26, 2026, signed by Senior Public Relations Officer Jacqueline Ngongonda, the Bureau said it arrested Mr. Gift Mponda on February 19, 2026.

According to the statement, Mponda, who works as a Radiology Technician at Zomba Central Hospital, is alleged to have abused his office by collecting money from a patient in exchange for facilitating a medical scan at the hospital.

The suspect appeared before the Zomba Senior Resident Magistrate Court on February 20, 2026, where he was charged with abuse of public office, contrary to Section 25B (1) as read with Section 34 of the Corrupt Practices Act. He was later released on police bail.

The ACB said the arrest comes amid growing reports of rampant corrupt practices in public hospitals, which the Bureau has since begun investigating.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau has reiterated its commitment to pursuing all cases of corruption and ensuring that individuals involved are held accountable under the law.
