Harry Maguire, a defender for Manchester United, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison with suspension by a Greek court over an incident that occurred in August 2020 on the island of Mykonos.
According to reports shared by sports journalist Fabrizio Romano and the Daily Mail, the case relates to an altercation that took place while the England international was on holiday in Greece.
Maguire was prosecuted on charges including aggravated assault on a police officer, resistance to arrest, and attempted corruption following the confrontation with police officers.
The Manchester United defender was initially sentenced to 21 months with suspension, but that verdict was later overturned on appeal. After several postponements, the case was retried nearly six years later, resulting in the new 15-month suspended sentence.
A suspended sentence means Maguire will not serve prison time unless he commits another offence during the suspension period.
The 31-year-old has consistently denied any wrongdoing and is expected to launch another appeal against the latest ruling.
The incident in Mykonos drew global attention in 2020 as Maguire was the captain of Manchester United at the time, making the case one of the most widely discussed off-field controversies involving a Premier League player.
