MALAWI CHURCHES CONFERENCE TO START TODAY IN MANGOCHI

The four day Malawi Council of Churches (MCC)  conference is scheduled to start today in Mangochi  aiming at consolidating Democratic  Governance and Electoral process ahead of May 20 tripartite election.

The conference has been arrived at after the grouping noted that the country is facing political and electoral challenges.

The aim of the conference which  will start today (Tuesday 22) and end on 25th April, is to find ways and means on how the churches and Political parties can exercises their duties in the best interest of Malawians and preserve the country’s democratic governance.

MCC  General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Osborne Joda -Mbewe  said:

“In particular, the conference  aims at scoring four  objectives, which are : to share  political democratic governance information on experiences from other countries  and debate the potential  of the same  in Malawi;  define and re-assert the role of the church in an electoral process; consolidate intra-party relations and initiatives within and outside electoral processes; and develop and commit to the roadmap  for initiating sound  inter and intra-party politics  towards good democratic governance  and acceptable  conduct of electoral process in Malawi.

“At the end of the conference a communiqué committing to the adherence of democratic  governance  by all stakeholders  and  to a peaceful conduct in the electoral process will be developed  and signed  by those present”.

The conference will bring together about four religious grouping which include the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM),  the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM),  the Quadria Moslem Association in Malawi (QMAM) and the Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM).
