Blantyre Council Closes Pacific Limited Over K52m Debt

The Blantyre City Council has closed Pacific Limited in Blantyre over unpaid city rates amounting to K52 million.
The enforcement exercise is being led by the Mayor of Blantyre, Isaac Jomo Osman, alongside all city councillors.
According to the council, the action follows the expiry of a 21-day ultimatum that was issued to property owners and businesses with outstanding city rate arrears to settle their debts.
Officials say the closure of the company forms part of the council’s ongoing efforts to recover unpaid revenues and enforce compliance among ratepayers in the city.
The council has warned that more businesses and property owners who have failed to clear their arrears risk facing similar enforcement measures.
