The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has received the first consignment of ballot papers ahead of the parliamentary and local government by-elections scheduled for March 17, 2026.

According to MEC, the shipment arrived on Wednesday morning and includes 11 pallets of ballot papers, forming part of the materials required for the electoral process.

MEC Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, confirmed that the ballot papers have been securely stored at a warehouse at Kamuzu International Airport.

Mwafulirwa said the commission will issue further updates once flight arrangements for the remaining ballot papers are finalized.

The March 17 by-elections will fill vacant parliamentary and local government positions in selected constituencies and wards across Malawi.
