Managing Director of Crossroads Hotel, Sameer Sacranie, who was abducted last month, has returned home safely.

National Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo confirmed the development to Nation Online, saying Sacranie arrived home around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

“He is safe. He walked home last night around 11:30,” said Chimtembo.

However, the police spokesperson declined to provide further details regarding where Sacranie had been during the period of his disappearance or the circumstances surrounding his release.

Chimtembo said police will soon issue a detailed statement on the matter.

Sacranie was abducted on February 6 at around 10:30 a.m. at his office within the Crossroads Hotel premises in Lilongwe. Reports indicate that three men dressed in white robes ambushed him as he arrived for work. The suspects allegedly fired two shots into the air before forcing him into a Toyota Fortuner and fleeing the scene.

Police later recovered the suspected getaway vehicle abandoned in Area 6 of the capital city. Authorities said the vehicle had been fitted with two different registration numbers—KA 1444 and KK 1008.

Last month, police indicated that they had identified persons of interest in connection with the abduction and were working closely with Sacranie’s family as investigations continued.

More details are expected to follow as police prepare an official statement.
