Man Gets 8 Years for Breaking into Two Houses in Balaka

The First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Balaka has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Chikondi Wilson, to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary, house breaking and theft.
Wilson, who comes from Chauluka Village under Traditional Authority Nsamala⁷ in Balaka District, was convicted on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Balaka Police Station Public Relations Officer Inspector Gladson M’bumpha said the court heard through State Prosecutor Inspector Liston Sabola that on January 6, 2026, the convict broke into the house of Mathews Henry and stole a plasma television, two keypad phones, electric kettles and assorted groceries valued at K600,000.
The court further heard that during the night of March 6 to 7, 2026, Wilson also broke into the house of Esther Mwangomba where he stole a 46-inch plasma television, electrical items, clothes and other property valued at K3,629,000.
Police later arrested Wilson on March 7, 2026 on suspicion of other offences.
During questioning, he reportedly led Balaka Police detectives to the recovery of some of the stolen items within Balaka and in Ntcheu.
