A 22-year-old Malawian man, Paswell Mposa Gondwe, has been arrested in Karonga for allegedly aiding the illegal entry of 10 Congolese nationals into Malawi.

According to Margret Msiska Ngulube, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Malawi Police Service, police received a tip-off from well-wishers that Gondwe was harbouring foreign nationals at his lodge.

Police later raided Ntchezoiwemi Lodge at Uliwa Trading Centre, where they found 10 Congolese nationals believed to be members of the same family, aged between 10 months and 71 years, hiding in a room.

The discovery led to Gondwe’s arrest. Police say Gondwe will appear in court soon to answer a charge of aiding illegal entry, while the Congolese nationals will face charges of illegal entry into Malawi.
