10-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Chiwangalala River in Mzimba

A 10-year-old girl, Mwaiwawo Gideon, has died after drowning in the Chiwangalala River at Matenga Village under Traditional Authority Mpherembe in Mzimba District.
Spokesperson for Kafukule Police Station, Thomas Jemitala, said the parents of the deceased had gone to ferry tobacco, leaving her at home with other children. She later went to the river, where she drowned.
“One of her friends alerted her father about the incident. She was taken to Malidade Health Centre, where she was confirmed dead upon arrival,” said Jemitala.
Police have since advised parents and guardians to closely monitor children, especially when they are near rivers and other water bodies, to prevent similar incidents.
