Elderly Woman Dies After Attempting to Cross Flooded River in Ngabu

A 70-year-old woman has drowned in the Nyakamba River in Ngabu, Chikwawa District.
Police spokesperson for the district, Sergeant Dickson Matemba, said the deceased has been identified as Margaret Msusa from Malemia 1 Village under Traditional Authority Ngabu in the district.
According to Matemba, the woman drowned in the river after she attempted to cross it despite it being full following heavy rains that fell in the area.
He said medical reports indicate that Msusa died due to asphyxiation after drowning.
Meanwhile, police have reminded the public to avoid crossing rivers with high water levels, especially as rains continue to fall in many parts of the country, in order to prevent similar deaths.
