Man Killed by Mob Over Suspected Theft in Chitipa

Angry residents in Chitipa District have killed 36-year-old Lameck Sibale after he was suspected of stealing 20 litres of cooking oil from Jomba Jomba Market under Traditional Authority Mwaulambya.

Police spokesperson for the district, Mathews Mfune, confirmed the incident, saying it occurred on March 16 this year when villagers caught Sibale in possession of the cooking oil.

Following this, the mob assaulted him, leaving him with severe injuries.

Well-wishers rushed him to Chitipa District Hospital, where he later died while receiving medical treatment.

Meanwhile, police have warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands when dealing with suspected criminals.
