Police in Mzuzu have arrested 19-year-old Lovemore Manase Hara on suspicion of burglary and theft.
Mzuzu Police Deputy Spokesperson, Sergeant Edson Chipeni, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was apprehended following a complaint lodged on March 18 by Tiwonge Mtonga, who reported that unknown criminals had broken into his house and stolen various items.
According to Chipeni, investigations led to the arrest of Hara, and police managed to recover the stolen goods. However, his alleged accomplice remains at large.
Recovered items include a 55-inch Samsung television, two speakers, two mobile phones, two flash drives, a blanket, K15,000 in cash, and a 10-kilogram construction bag, all valued at approximately K3.5 million.
Chipeni further said the suspect confessed to committing another burglary at a house belonging to Arnold Soko in Kampingo Sibande, Mzimba District. The stolen property in that case has since been recovered and returned to its owner.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of breaking into a house and committing theft.
