Airtime vendor Arrested for Allegedly Abducting and Defiling 17-Year-Old Girl

Police in Mwanza have apprehended a 22-year-old man, Mayamiko Singaniza, on allegations of defilement and for allegedly holding a 17-year-old girl captive for four days.
According to Mwanza Police spokesperson Hope Kasakula, the suspect had been involved in a relationship with the minor a union that the girl’s father had explicitly forbidden.
Despite the father’s warnings to end the relationship, Singaniza reportedly persisted. Police reports indicate that the suspect continued to pursue the girl, allegedly using various gifts to entice her into maintaining the relationship in secret.
The situation escalated when the girl went missing, leading her father to seek intervention from the authorities. Following a police investigation, it was discovered that the girl had been kept at the suspect’s residence for four days.
Singaniza, who earns a living as a mobile airtime vendor, hails from Emvulo Village under Traditional Authority Govati in Mwanza District.”We have officially charged the suspect with defilement,” stated Kasakula. “He is expected to appear in court shortly to answer to the charges.”
The police have reiterated their commitment to protecting the rights of minors and have urged parents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving children to the nearest police station.
