Man Arrested in Chikwawa for Killing His Three-Month-Old Baby

Police in Chikwawa have arrested a 24-year-old man, Augustine Alufandika, from Kantefa Village under Traditional Authority Katunga, on suspicion of killing his three-month-old child.

Chikwawa Police spokesperson, Dickson Matemba, confirmed the incident and said it occurred on the 27th of this month. According to Matemba, Alufandika returned home from a drinking place and found the baby crying, which led to an argument with his wife.

Matemba explained that during the altercation, the suspect began assaulting his wife and later picked up a knife, allegedly intending to stab her. The woman managed to escape, but the suspect then turned on the infant, repeatedly stabbing the child.

Well-wishers rushed the baby to Chikwawa District Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed the infant’s death due to severe head injuries.

Police have since taken Alufandika into custody and he is expected to appear in court soon.
