Police in Mzuzu have arrested 23-year-old Joseph Kachingwe in connection with a series of breaking and theft cases that occurred in Ekwendeni and Enukweni trading centres between November 2025 and March 2026.

Kachingwe, a resident of Nkhuku Village under Traditional Authority Mvumbwe in Thyolo District, was apprehended following intelligence-led investigations. A large cache of stolen items has been recovered from his house and other locations in Enukweni.

The recovered items include plasma screens, amplifiers, speakers, mattresses, and car batteries, with an estimated total value of MK49 million.

All the recovered property has since been identified and reclaimed by the rightful owners.

Meanwhile, efforts are still underway to apprehend other suspects who are still at large in connection with the same case.

Mzuzu Police Station has commended the community for its support in tracking down suspects and is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing the remaining culprits to justice.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charges.
