Operations at Nacala Logistics offices in Liwonde Township in Machinga have been disrupted after employees downed tools and staged a sit-in protest over salary-related grievances.

The workers’ action follows months of unresolved concerns regarding salary restructuring. One employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said staff members have been engaging management for the past eight months, pushing for salary increments.

According to the employee, the prolonged discussions have not yielded any meaningful response, prompting workers to take industrial action.

“We have been patient and hopeful that management would address our concerns, but nothing has changed,” the employee said.

Efforts to get a comment from management proved unsuccessful, as Nacala Logistics Human Resource Supervisor Hastings Jumbe declined to comment, stating that discussions with employees are still ongoing.

The situation has since affected normal operations at the Liwonde offices, with no clear indication of when the impasse will be resolved.
