Chiwanja Cha Ayao Chairperson Charles Twaibu has resigned from the position barely 12 months after being elected, Faceofmalawi can reveal.
In a letter dated April 14, 2026 addressed to the Secretary General of Chiefs Council seen by this publication, Twaibu has cited his involving office work as the main reason for his resignation.
“I would like to communicate my decision to tender resignation as Chairperson of Chiwanja Cha Ayao with immediate effect through your office of Secretary of Chiefs Council.
“The reason for my resignation is that I am involved in very demanding project which equally needs my full attention. Due to the demands of the project which involves daily meetings and updates it became apparent that I couldn’t effectively handle both roles,” reads in part the letter.
He added: “In view of this the Vice Chairperson with adherence to the constitution and in consultation with your office shall facilitate the process of my replacement.”
Chiwanja Cha Ayao Chiefs Council Secretary Senior Chief Chowe confirmed receiving Twaibu’s resignation but was quick to say the grouping is trying its best to convince the chairperson to reverse his decision.
“I can confirm that Twaibu has tendered his resignation but as Chiefs Council we are trying our best to convince him to reverse his decision.
“Yes we accept that our Chairperson is busy with personal matters but he can always delegate,” said Snr Chief Chowe.
Twaibu was elected on the post in May last year.
