Former Speaker of Parliament Henry Chimunthu Banda is reported to be in stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery at Kamuzu Central Hospital following a road traffic accident in Dedza.
He was rushed to the hospital on Monday night after the crash while travelling from Mangochi to Lilongwe with his driver.
Doctors diagnosed a bowel perforation, a serious internal injury that required urgent surgical intervention, and he underwent emergency surgery shortly after arrival.
The hospital says the operation was successful, and he has been moved to the High Dependency Unit for close monitoring as recovery continues.
