The Malawi Police Service has intensified security operations in Msundwe, leading to the arrest of 14 suspects linked to various criminal activities.
Police are conducting the operation jointly with the Malawi Defence Force as part of efforts to restore law and order in the area by removing criminal elements.
According to police, the area has recently experienced recurring incidents of assaults, smuggling, and the manufacturing and distribution of illicit alcohol.
During the operation, the suspects were arrested for offences including obstructing police officers while on duty, possession of property suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained, illegal possession of liquid gas, and counterfeiting trademarks.
Police also confiscated large quantities of ethanol, suspected counterfeit alcoholic products commonly known as “Mkalabongo,” liquid gas, and assorted electronic items after the suspects reportedly failed to produce supporting documents.
The suspects are currently in police custody awaiting court proceedings.
Authorities say the security operation is still ongoing as efforts continue to improve safety and security in the area.
