Two Arrested in Mchinji Over Illegal Possession of Ivory

Police in Mchinji have arrested two men for allegedly being found in illegal possession of four pieces of ivory weighing about six kilograms.
According to Mchinji Police Deputy Spokesperson Susan Mchekeya, the suspects were apprehended at Guillime Trading Centre following a tip-off from members of the public.
Mchekeya said police officers intercepted the two while they were traveling in a Toyota Corolla and reportedly searching for potential buyers for the ivory.
The suspects have been identified as Alex Cosmas, 40, from Kamwendo Village under iNkosi Zulu, and Ulemu Weluzani, 44, from Mtunga Village in the area of Senior Chief Mduwa, both in Mchinji District.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and the two are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges related to illegal possession and trafficking of wildlife products.
