A 49-year-old man, Ackim Mithi, from Samuel Kamanga Village under Traditional Authority Mzikubola in Mzimba District, has died after drowning in Ndawa Stream.
Jenda Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Godknows Malema said Mithi, who was living with epilepsy, left home on June 7, 2026, to wash clothes at the stream but failed to return.
Concerned relatives launched a search, and his body was later discovered floating in the stream by a passerby, who reported the matter to police.
A postmortem examination conducted at the scene established that Mithi died from asphyxia due to drowning.
Police have since urged communities to take extra precautions when carrying out activities near rivers and streams, particularly for individuals with medical conditions that may increase the risk of accidents.
