Preparations for the memorial service of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima are at an advanced stage ahead of the commemoration scheduled for Friday, 13 June 2026.

United Transformation Movement (UTM) spokesperson Felix Njawala said all Malawians are welcome to attend the event, which will take place at Chilima’s home village of Nsipe in Ntcheu District.

According to Njawala, Chilima’s legacy remains influential, particularly among young people who drew inspiration from his commitment to leadership and public service.

However, Njawala declined to comment on whether the party has revised its stance regarding the participation of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) officials at the memorial.

Dr. Chilima died on 10 June 2024 in a plane crash that also claimed the lives of eight other people.
