Police in Dedza have arrested three men in connection with a violent armed robbery that occurred in January this year and the murder of a local businessman in September last year.

Dedza Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Beatrice Jefita identified the suspects as Vincent Damiano, Edward Moffat, and Edward Yona. Along with the arrests, law enforcement successfully recovered an AK47 rifle loaded with six rounds of ammunition, which is believed to have been used in both crimes.

According to Jefita, the breakthrough follows intensive investigations into a robbery that took place on 13 January 2026 at around 18:00 hours in Kapesi Village, under Traditional Authority Kachere. During that incident, the suspects, who were unidentified at the time, were armed with an AK47 rifle and a pistol. They attacked a businessman and robbed him of K47 million in cash.

Following up on leads, Dedza Police apprehended the three suspects and recovered the rifle and ammunition.

Jefita further indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the recovered firearm may also have been used in the murder of businessman Victor Biyeni on 6 September 2025. She noted, however, that official investigations into the connection between the suspects and the murder are still underway.
