South African anti-illegal immigration group March and March Movement has confirmed the death of one of its leaders, Andile Mvuyelwa Somgxada, who was reportedly shot outside his home in an alleged targeted attack.
According to a statement released by the movement, Somgxada was shot while leaving his home in Greenfields, Ekurhuleni, on 4 July 2026. He was rushed to hospital, where he remained under medical care before succumbing to his injuries on 9 July 2026.
The organisation described the incident as an assassination and claimed that Somgxada’s death follows a series of threats allegedly directed at its leaders. It further alleged that organisers in Tshwane, Umlazi, and Mpumalanga have received warning messages following recent anti-illegal immigration marches.
The movement also claimed that some of the threats may be linked to individuals who allegedly benefit from extortion and protection fee rackets involving illegal businesses. However, these allegations have not been independently verified, and authorities have not publicly confirmed any connection between the reported threats and Somgxada’s death.
The March and March Movement has called on South African law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting and bring those responsible to justice.
Police had not released an official statement on the motive for the killing at the time of publication, and investigations are ongoing.
