54-Year-Old Man Dies After Being Hit by Vehicle in Lilongwe

A 54-year old man in Lilongwe has died after being hit by a vehicle while he was crossing the road from Area 43 side into M1 road.
Lingadzi Police Station Public Relations Officer Maria Kumwenda said this occurred on July 25 2026 at around 18:00 hours at M1 road opposite Area 30 Petroda Filling Station.
It is reported that a Nissan Navara pickup, registration number KA 1700, which was driven by Daniel Ghambi aged 49, of Mwangolera Village, Traditional Authority Kyungu, Karonga District, was travelling from Kanengo direction towards Area 18.
Then it hit a pedestrian identified as Richard Hara who was crossing the road from the Area 43 side to the other side.
Due to the impact, the pedestrian was seriously injured and pronounced dead upon arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Meanwhile, Lingadzi Police Station is appealing to any relative to the deceased to report to the police for body identification at Kamuzu Central mortuary.
The police is also reminding road users to exercise caution, obey traffic rules and be vigilant when crossing roads especially during evening hour.
