FIRST DEPUTY SPEAKER DISSATISFIED WITH NUMBER OF WOMEN IN PARLIAMENT

The newly elected First Deputy Speaker of Malawi National Assembly Esther Mcheka Chilenje Nkhoma has expressed discontent over the reduction in the number of Female Members of Parliament in the August house.

She said this during a Cocktail organized by Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) at Parliament building last night aiming at congratulating new MPs who have made it to the August house.

In her speech, Chilenje blamed the media for not taking a leading role in advocating for women in decision making position.

Out of 192 Members of Parliament who have made it to the August house only 30 are women.
