DRIVER FINED K175,000 IN MACHINGA

Liwonde Magistrate Court in Machinga has thrashed Sunduzwayo Chavula to pay a fine of 175,000 else to serve eight years imprisonment with hard labour after the court found him guilty of causing death by reckless driving and injuring a police officer in the process.

The court found Chaula guilty and was charged with causing death by reckless driving contrary to Section 126 of Road Traffic Act.

Chaula was arrested last week after the vehicle he was driving a Toyota salon registration number MZ 7665 hit David Polera who was working for Machinga District Forestry Office stationed at Liwonde Road Block to check illegal transportation of forest products.

Chaula is believed to have hit and run Sub Inspector Francis Chisale who sustained a right leg fracture apart from knocking off  Polera to death on June 8th.

Polera was laid to rest at Ndecha village, Traditional Authority Nkula in Machinga on June 9th.

Meanwhile Chaula has paid the K175,000 in cash serving himself from jail term.
