We have a Ravenala madagascariensis commonly known as Traveller’s Tree

We were surprised today to find out that the green outside of our office is home to a Ravenala madagascariensis, commonly known as Traveller’s Tree or Traveller’s Palm this is a very cool plant because its history goes back as far as Dr David Livingstone, one of our country’s finding fathers used to use this plant to figure out which way is north and which way south. It does not matter how you plant the seeds of this plant, its leaves always choose to point to the north and the south. The other reason its called a Traveller’s Palm because the sheaths of the stems hold rainwater, which supposedly could be used as an emergency drinking supply for the needy. But we haven’t tried this yet. Here is a pic of what it looks like now and the other one is a pics of what it could look like later in the years.
