ONE PERSON DIES IN ROAD ACCIDENT IN CHIKWAWA

One person is reported dead and eight others have sustained serious injuries after a lorry they were travelling in overturned in chikwawa district.

The accident happened on Monday at Kulima Village, Traditional Authority Ngabu in the district.

Ngabu Police Assistant Superintendent, Maxmos Solomon confirmed of the accident.

According to the police, one and half tonne lorry, registration number BN 7500, was heading to Nchalo from Ngabu when the driver lost control of the vehicle after the front tyre had burst leading to the death of Cassium Mafuta, 25.

Police say the survivors were taken to Ngabu Rural Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

The police have since arrested the driver for the charges of causing death by reckless driving which is contrary to Section 127 of the Road Traffic Act.

The deceased hailed from Sekeni Village, Traditional Authority Lundu in the district.
