MPHWIYO’s CASE ADJOURNED TO WEDNESDAY

Lilongwe High Court Judge Michael Mtambo has adjourned the hearing of a case involving the shooting of former Budget Director Mr. Paul Mphwiyo to next week Wednesday.

Mtambo made the adjournment on Friday morning after two State witnesses who reside in the commercial capital of Blantyre failed to show up in Court due to what they called ‘logistical problem’.

Before the hearing , the prosecution asked for the parading of witness in the case to be adjourned but Mtambo rebuffed the request.

On Thursday Mtambo moved his court to Area 43 in Lilongwe at the site where former Budget Director Mr. Paul Mphwiyo was allegedly shot whilst entering his residence yard in September last year.

During the on-site hearing, Mr. Mphwiyo’s guard Mr. Charles Singano testified that he heard three gun shots but did not see any of the suspects.

Mr. Singano also disputed to have stamped his thumb print on a statement he submitted to the police when one bearing a thumb print was tendered in court.

Former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara, Dauka Manondo, Pika Manondo, Macdonald Kumwembe and Robert Kadzuwa are the ones being accused in the attempted murder of Mr. Mphwiyo.

But accused persons in the attempted murder of Mphwiyo have pleaded not guilty to the two counts of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The prosecution has eight witness to parade in Court.
