Recent revelations indicate that former President Joyce Banda at the apex of her career awarded the murder suspect Ali Kaka Chinemba MK20 million for what she said was wrongful arrest.
Ali Kaka who is now in police custody having had killed a man in cold blood last evening over a disagreement on the usage of a road in which he claimed that a road to his house had been blocked was a personal bodyguard and friend to former attorney general and justice minister Ralph Kasambara.
Kasambara alongside Ali Kaka were arrested for torture by the late Bingu wa Mutharika after they allegedly tortured to near death two men whom they called DPP cadets and were suspected to have been sent to torch Kasambara’s house.
However upon Banda’s ascension to power Chinemba was awarded Mk20 million in an out of court settlement over what was said to have been falseful imprisonment.
Chinemba stood as an independent candidate for Blantyre City South in which he lost to musician Allan Ngumuya. Throughout the campaign, his opponents urged people not to vote for him as he was a thug.
