Consumers Association of Malawi (CAMA) Executive Director John Kapito has described the proposal by Lilongwe Water Board to hike Water tariffs by 50 percent as unfair.

According to the communication from Chief Secretary to the government to LWB that FaceofMalawi came across, government already approved the proposal and it just await the ministerial approval.

In the letter, the Chief Secretary indicates that the hike is incorporated into board’s annual budget and only awaits a ministerial consent to be effected.

In his speech, Kapito said: “The board is planning to increase the water tariffs at a time when their services are not good. This is too terrible and unfair to the consumer”.

He further threaten to take to task the responsible minister if he approves the proposal.
