UNIMA FINALLY IMPLEMENTS 400% FEE HIKE, STUDENTS ‘AGREE’ NOT TO PROTEST

FaceofMalawi exclusively has it that the University of Malawi has finally agreed to implement a 400% fee hike in all its constituent Colleges.

Information that this online publication has indicates that from the new academic year that will fall in line with the new budget, the University will implement the 400% fee hike.

Under this, it is expected that all government sponsored students will be required to pay a minimum of MK275,000 from MK55,000 which they are paying right now. Parallel students will be paying MK940,000.

Reports further suggest that disunity amongst the students will see government have a free ride in implementing the hike that will have been opposed were it in the past University crop.

Some students are indicating that they will foot the bill while another group is not comfortable with the system.

The proposal to hike the University fees has been on the proposing table for far too long but had always met stiff opposition which has not been there this time around.

The decision to hike University fees has been contentious as it has heavily divided opinion with some looking at it unfairly while others welcoming it.
