STOLEN MONEY FOR MZUZU STANDARD BANK RECOVERED

Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) officers on Wednesday night intercepted an Ipsum registration number DZ 4039 and money stolen from Mzuzu Standard Bank worthy MK500 million.

According to information sourced by FaceofMalawi, the unknown armed robbers used Standard Bank branded vehicles and duped staff at the branch.

However, the thieves were chased by security and fortunately the thieves abandoned the vehicle with the cash at Jenda before the MRA roadblock.

MRA’s Deputy Director Corporate Affairs, Steven Kapoloma said: “But before reaching the roadblock, the vehicles diverted into unchartered route towards the bush. MRA officers at the road block pursued the two vehicles until one vehicle was intercepted having been abandoned by thieves”.

Upon searching into the vehicle, police discovered a bag containing huge sums of money suspected to have been stolen at the Bank.

The money was handed to the Malawi police service for investigations.

Meanwhile one of the Security officers who were present during the robbery has been arrested.
