About 60 people escaped unhurt from an Axa deluxe coach caught fire on Saturday at Lwanatong in Nkhata Bay.

Speaking to our FOM reporters, Northern Region Police spokesperson Maurice chapola said the bus, registration Axa 19, was on its way to mzuzu after leaving Blantyre on Friday evening.

“The incident happened in the early hours, luckily the bus driver noted the smoke quickly and stopped the bus, asking the passengers to disembark in good time,” said Chapola.

Meanwhile police are still investigating the cause of the fire and value of the items destroyed.
