MCM HAS HAILED THE JOURNALIST ACCREDITATION PROGRAM

The Media Council of Malawi has expressed satisfaction over mandatory accreditation as a number of journalists continue to show up for endorsement.

The council enforced a mandatory journalist’s accreditation in the Southern Africa country following concerns from stakeholders of impersonation of some reporters, a trend that has grown rampant in the recent past.

The process started end of July and recently, the Media Council extended the accreditation period to end October, as the council was still receiving names from media houses and other freelancers.

Media Council of Malawi Executive Director Vales Machila speaking to FaceofMalawi had this to say.

“We are very satisfied with the response from journalists and media houses so far. Over 300 have been accredited,” said Machila

Machila said the names of the accredited practitioners will be published this month.

This is the first time for MCM to carry out a mandatory accreditation exercise for local journalists.
