MUTHARIKA DONATES K2 MILLION TO DEDZA SECONDARY SCHOOL

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Thursday paid a surprised visit to Dedza Secondary School where he together with his late brother President Bingu wa Mutharika did their high school education.

Mutharika who was accompanied by the country’s First Lady Madam Gertrude Hendrina Mutharika donated K2 million for buying food and use in sports activities plus 15 50kg bags of rice, 4 cartons of cooking oil and 1, 000 notebooks.

In his speech, Mutharika said he planned to pay an announced visit to the school to appreciate the progress that students are making in preserving the high standards of the school.

“This school brings to me very fond memories. I was here for six years, because back then, secondary education went as far as that.

“Dedza Secondary school has over a long period of time produced some of the best intellectuals of our land, including two presidents. This school has a rich history”, said Mutharika.

On his part, Mr Joseph Chioza, the headmaster at the campus applauded the gesture shown by President Mutharika.

“We are very grateful for your visit. This will instill confidence in the boys to work extra hard, maybe the next president will also come from this school,” he said.

However, President Mutharika urged the students to continue working hard in their studies so as to promote the rich history of the school.
