POLICE INTERCEPT 18 BAGS OF INDIAN HEMP IN LL

Police in Lilongwe have intercepted eighteen bags of Indian hemp in a vehicle which was carrying maize husks to Zimbabwe on November 3.

Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Esther Mkwanda confirmed of the development in an interview with press.

According to Kanengo, Mkwanda, the vehicle, Freight Liner Truck, registration BR 1034, was being driven by Kenneth Ngwira, 32.

“The company owner, whose name was not disclosed for reputation sake, alerted the Police after suspecting the behaviour of the driver.

“The Police searched the vehicle at Area 28 where they set a road block. They found eighteen bags of Indian hemp each bag weighing 100 Kilograms,” she said.

Mkwanda said Ngwira hid the eighteen bags in the middle of the maize husks in the truck.

Ngwira hails from Lavundika Village in Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhatabay district.

The suspect will appear before court soon to answer charges of illegal possession of Indian hemp.
