DUWA REBUFFS MUTHARIKA’s APPOINTMENT

Executive Director for Pan African Civic Educators Network, (PACENET) Steve Duwa has rebuffed the offer to serve as a board of director for Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), saying doing so would meaning breaching his organization code of conduct.

The development comes barely weeks after President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika announced the new board of directors of statutory corporation which comprised of Clergies’, Traditional leaders,technocrats and Human rights activist.

“I would rather opt to be where I have been so that I provide the checks and balances on the government operation without any compromise,” said Duwa.

The inclusion of human rights activist like Consumer Association Of Malawi (CAMA) Executive Director John Kapito and other rights activist surprised many Malawians, criticizing the government of try to silence NGos.

Reacting to the development, Government spokesperson Kondwani Nankhumwa denied this, saying the inclusion of rights activist means the Democratic Progressive party (DPP) is willing to work with any one.
