ANGRY PEOPLE BEAT WATER BOARD BOSS OVER DRY TAPS

Dedza police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Edward Kabango, asked for more time to confirm the incident.

Kasambwe said, “They were angry saying the Water Board is having water which they use to water flower beds around their offices when people’s homes are running without water for months.”

Kasambwe said the infuriated mob roughed up the manager when he came out of his office to reason with them.
Two other onlookers, Julius Lufeyo and Sunganani Buleya, all from Nthandizi location in Dedza Township, corroborated Kasambwe’s version of events.

Bitoni could not give his side of the story as he was not around the office when this reporter arrived on the scene and his phone could not be reached.

One demonstrator, James Chingayipe, said hygiene at his home has been compromised because of the frequent water cuts.

“What is more annoying is that the Water Board presents us with exorbitant bills when we don’t use their water supplies,” he said.

He said people are risking catching water borne diseases because they are drinking from unprotected water sources.
