TRAFFICKED CHILDREN INTERCEPTED: THREE ARRESTED IN PHALOMBE

Three Child traffickers are in Police custody in Phalombe for allegedly attempting to traffic three Children to Mozambique on bicycles without the consent of their parents or guardians.

The three have been identified as Billiat Lipongo, aged 54, of Selenje Village, T/A Jenala, Phalombe district; Maxson Jeremiah, aged 45, of Likhuva Village, T/A Mnkhumba, Phalombe district and Underck Chitekwe, aged 21, of Mulumbu Village in Mozambique.

“Upon receiving a tip-off, police at Nambazo Police Unit rushed to foil, intercept and arrest the traffickers at Koloviko Village when they tried to cross into Mozambique,” reads the statement seen by FaceofMalawi.

The three children who were rescued from the hands of the traffickers are Gift Jeremiah, aged 13, of Paulo Village, T/A Jenala in Phalombe; Stephano Sambani, aged 13, of Issa Village, T/A Chikowi in Zomba and David Master, aged 15, of Lima Village, T/A Chikowi in Zomba. Sadly, the first victim was actually almost trafficked by his father who was networking with the team of traffickers from Mozambique.

The three suspects will appear before court soon to answer child trafficking charge.
