Police in Nkhotakota have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly being found in possession of a MK4. 303 rifle with 4 live ammunitions without proper documents.
Nkhotakota police have confirmed of the development and identified the suspect as Lotibo Stambuli from Nkosi village, T/A Mponde in Nkhotakota District.
According to the police, the suspect was arrested by Chigolo Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Salima after receiving the tip from well-wishers.
“Information reached the Chairperson of the CPF in the area, Mr Gwanda who mobilised his team and arrested the suspect, recovered the said rifle and ammunitions.
“It is alleged that the suspect was about to use the firearm during the arrest but he failed as one of the bullets got stuck in the chamber of the rifle,” reads in part the statement.
Meanwhile Police says investigations are underway to establish where the suspect got the rifle and ammunitions.
