MAN ARRESTED AT KIA FOR ATTEMPTING TO ILLEGALLY EXTERNALIZE K7 MILLION

Police in Lilongwe are keeping in custody 35 years old Lufeyo Chitukula for allegedly externalizing foreign currency without supporting documents.

Chitukula who was about to board a South African Airways plane was arrested at Kamuzu International Airport after being found in possessions of thousands of Rands.

According to Kamuzu International Airport police Public Relations Officer sergeant Sapulani Chitonde, the suspect had on him 96,200 Rands (about 7million kwacha) hidden underneath his luggage.

“Upon arrival in the departure lounge Chitukula was searched by professional police officers who found on him 96,200 Rands, ” Chitonde explained

Meanwhile the suspect is in police custody waiting to appear before court soon, where he will be answering two counts of attempt externalizing foreign currency and illegal possessions of foreign currency without approval from the ministry contrary to exchange Control Act of the Reserve Bank of Malawi.

35 year old Chitukula hails from Tsanulani Village, T/A Njolomole in Ntcheu District.
